Everything new and awesome in women's health for February 2022

Updated: Feb 2, 2023

Featuring: Dr Christiane Northrup discussing hot flushes, introducing The Lara Briden Podcast and giving my hot take on protein powders!

Is caffeine triggering your hot flushes? Or could it booze? Hold on, maybe it's low (or high) oestrogen levels? Stop guessing and start reading ladies! Spoiler alert-it's PERSONAL to each and every woman but knowing what some of the most common triggers are might go a long way to helping you personally identify what might be getting you in a hot mess AND what you can do about it. Did you know that even men can get them?

In the interests of providing useful newsletter content for my women's health-curious readers, I was trying to find an article that summarised the multiple effects of alcohol during perimenopause. Unfortunately I couldn't find one that pulled together all the factors I wanted to discuss and that affect most of my friends and perimenopausal patients. Far be it for me to piss on anyones chips where a drink is concerned, (absolutely no judgement here!) but if you're going to drink during your perimenopause, I think it's important to have it eyes wide-open, knowing the potential symptoms that might be affecting you now or in the near future. It's a short 5 minute clip which I shot in one foul swoop after a morning dog walk (thank God for filters!) so I hope you get something from it.

Must Get: Protein Powders

I am often asked my thoughts on which protein powders I recommend for use in a smoothie, to be blended up with a plant mylk or to cook with. You might be surprised to hear I actually HATE most of them. Why? They are processed AF (no thank you soy-isolates!) contain lots of artificial sweeteners/alcohol sugars, taste foul (how can a chocolate orange protein powder sound so nice yet taste so awful?!) AND make me fart all day long! I must have tried almost all the vegan ones on the market and have boiled it down to two/three brands that are palatable and 'clean'-that is, not made from isolates and are biofermented and/or organic (I know, I am a total foodie snob!). They are Raw Sport Official Revolution Foods and Sunwarrior (Protein Warrior range). Here's a link to each of them and if you decide to place an order, there's 15% off and free P&P at checkout if you use discount code RBOON15:

Good luck and let me know how you get on!

My March Boon Juice Cleanse is FULL and I'm too busy to run one in April so keep your eyes peeled for next month's newsletter when I'll announce May and July dates!

Remember I now offer FREE DELIVERY in the Lancing and Shoreham area!

If you're thinking about your first cleanse but want to know what you're getting yourself into, have a look at some of my testimonials or drop me an email with any questions!
