Featuring: Featuring Dr Mindy Pelz (author, speaker and fasting expert), Dr Lara Briden (Naturopath and Period Revolutionary) and Dr Aviva Romm (MD, herbalist and midwife)
From period pain being 'normal' (no no and NO!) & natural carbs being bad for your health (again no x 10) to vaginal odour and trusting your own gut instinct over that of your general practitoner, Dr Aviva dispels 10 common hormonal health myths that I encounter almost DAILY in clincial practice. My favourite one being 'Herbs and Supplements don't really work' (like WTF?!) This fun 60 second read should hopefully correct a thought or two & leave you feeling more sexy badass than dried up old crone!
Did you that experts refer to perimenopause as our 'second puberty' which is usually anytime from age 35 onwards? And did you also know that it's not just our BODIES that re-calibrate during this 7-10 year period, but our BRAINS experience some major shifts too? What we ALL need to remember is that this state is transitional which means it is (thankfully for some!) TEMPORARY! One year after our final period, the brain will be in its new steady, low hormone state and should be a lot more resilient really than it has been during the perimenopausal years.
Must Do: Consider a tech break
OMG if my 6 day tech break over the festive period this year taught me ANYTHING it's that I 100% use social media to fill in the 'gaps'. The quiet times between patients, whilst the rice is boiling, whilst I'm in a queue and l'm not gonna lie, when I'm on the loo! And all these 'gap-filling' times really do add up. But this winter break, my 'gap-filling' comprised reading half a young adult fiction book (Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman if you're interested), a quarter of a geeky gynaecological practitioner text, rearranging my study and I left waaay more Whatsapp voice notes for dear friends, here and abroad than I'd normally ever get around to. But most of all, the mental QUIET it gifted me. It was amazing! I was properly bored for the first time in as long as I could remember. And I say that in a good way. And now I'm no longer on a tech break, I'm out of the habit of checking insta-stories every 5 minutes so my usage is waaaaay down compared to previous weeks. I simply removed Instagram and Gmail from my phone. That's it. Are you tempted to give it a try?
